Old Arab Ruins Visit
The Mangapwani Slave Chamber is about 20 Kilometers North of Stone Town built around 1880 that was connected from the cave to the seaside about 2kms away. It was an important transit hub for the captured slaves to the outside world at the time of the abolishment of slavery in 1873
The program
This is a 4 hour guided tour program that commences and ends at Sea Crest Hotel.
Visit Central Market
- Walk along the pathways of Stone Town to the house of former trader Tippu Tip. Then advances to the biggest market at Mkunazini (Stone Town) where slaves were cruelty whipped before being auctioned.
Visit Dr. David Livingstone’s House
- Visit the house of the slaves abolishment activist, Dr. David Livingstone who campaigned for the abolition of slavery which marked its end in 1873.
Visit Mangapwani Ruins and Caves
- 99 necked enslaved women were entertaining the Arab Sultan of Zanzibar (between 1870 and 1888) in the luxurious fortress. The last stop is at Mangapwani cavity where slaves were kept waiting for monsoon winded boats to collect them ready to be send abroad.
