- Scuba Diving Program in Zanzibar

Sea Crest Hotel provides you with scuba diving in Zanzibar, to enjoy the adventure of green and hawksbill turtles, playful dolphins and also humpback whales in the months of July through October and also sometimes in November as they migrate along ancient routes.
The water depth is shallow ranging from ten to forty meters allowing the sunlight to filter through lighting up an ethereal world where colorful fish, ribbon eels, barracudas, octopus, blue spotted rays, moray eels, green turtles, nudibranchs, whip gobies, seahorses, pipefish to name a few, play among the coral. You might also chance to spot black-tipped and white-tipped reef sharks.
From October to March the arrival of the plankton-eating whale sharks starts; though Mafia Island is the best place to spot and swim with them as they are regularly tracked by the Kitu Kiblu research crew. The reefs around Zanzibar are suitable for PADI divers with all levels of experience from the amateur “Open Water” explorers to the more experienced veterans. You can go wall diving, follow the seemingly unending reef lines of zigzagging coral bommies or check out the wrecks around Stone Town.
As you visit the island of Zanzibar on your beach holiday, you will learn of the efforts being taken by the Tanzanian and Zanzibar authorities to protect this incredible marine world. They have banned fishing at the Mnemba Atoll Marine Park and Chumbe Island Coral Park, so the reef and its many denizens are allowed to multiply without the threat of overfishing. Note Chumbe only permits snorkeling. The proceeds from the dive and snorkel fees you pay are diverted for the upliftment of the local fishing communities but also for the protection of the surrounding coral reef ecology.
